I was born in 1972 in New York City, NY. I think I was born in Roosevelt Hospital, full name St Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital (?) on Amsterdam Ave, northwest of Central Park.
We lived in New York, and I think we lived around the Lower East Side, near 14th Street. All I remember is the playground down the street and the corner store near our building. I went there to buy candy, I think.
My sister Noora was born in Southampton Hospital in 1976. Southampton is out on Long Island, near where my grandparents live (Whitney Rd. in Sag Harbor, about 5 miles northeast of here in some vast geographic whiteness). I spent my summers there when I was younger.
In 1978, we moved to the Jamaica Plains neighborhood of Boston. I remember the public transportation system, the T, best of all. I travelled all over the city and the surrounding area by myself before I was 14. My sister Nikka was born in our house there.
My best friend, Taki, lived sort of nearby: down the street from the Forest Hills T station, where the Green Line and Orange Line intersect.
We moved to a house on Bird Key in Sarasota, FL, in 1986. Bird Key is full of old, rich people with a smattering of younger rich people. The kind of stereotypical neighborhood where the kids run wild because they are bored and ignored out fo their minds. While I don't remember anything terribly bad, we probably didn't settle very well there. We lived there for a year and a half before we moved to Desoto Rd. in northern Sarasota County, near the county line. That area of town has the distinction of being the only part of Sarasota west of I-75 that is zoned to allow horses. I wasn't very impressed by the horses themselves, but I liked the uniquity.
After I graduated from Pine View School in 1991 (which since moved to a new facility), I went off to Emory here in Atlanta, GA. I hung out there for a few years and then went away. After a month or two, I got a real job thanks to my friend Paul.
Since then, I've gone on to bigger an better career options. I am especially happy that the building where I work is just around the corner from my apartment.
Recently, Noora stopped by with her friend Zita while they were travelling up to New York for the summer. She moved out of her apartment in Sarasota to live with our grandparents and save up money to travel to South America this fall.
Also, Nikka graduated from high school and is off to Lakeland, FL, to work for the summer and start college in the fall.
My mom lives in the northern part of Sarasota, FL. She just bought a place near the airport.
My dad lives in Santa Fe, NM, which is completely unmapped in TerraServer but is mapped in ExpediaMaps.
